Vacancy: DevOps Engineer (Carerix)

Function

  • Work on groundbreaking migration while keeping millions of users online
  • Develop innovative solutions that the entire company will use
  • Ensure high performance of the primary business system for thousands of clients

What will you be doing?

Together with your 4 DevOps colleagues, you'll work alternately with 4 agile remote development teams (around 18 developers in total, spread across Europe, with 2 based in Rotterdam). The team's working language is English.

One of these 4 development teams works on the existing environment, running the core application—an Applicant Tracking System (ATS). Three teams work on the new environment.

The new environment runs partner plugins, APIs, AI-powered search, etc. The core application is expected to transition to the new environment by Q4 2026. Both are hosted on Amazon.

The old environment is essentially datacenter virtualization. The new one is a state-of-the-art IaaS environment: serverless with microservices, using Docker and Kubernetes. At least 25% of your work will involve scripting in Bash and Python.

To be honest, currently 80% of your work will still focus on the old environment, but this will gradually shift toward the new one. For Carerix customers, the core application is their primary business system, also connected to their website. Performance and uptime are absolutely key. You'll ensure all instances and services are high-performing and available to customers and partners, while keeping them updated with the latest patches.

Alternating with your direct colleagues, you'll regularly have the 7 AM shift (from home, of course) to check that everything's running smoothly before customers start their workday.

You'll also collaborate with developers on new products.

At Carerix, you'll have plenty of room to translate developments you identify into improvement proposals for the platform and to execute your own innovative ideas.

One of the DevOps engineers even developed their own tool for managing and activating customer applications—it's now widely used throughout Carerix!

Requirements

  • Your attitude and motivation are the most important thing at Carerix
  • Take on the full breadth - "that's not in my job description" doesn't exist
  • Solve complex incidents quickly and analyze problems under pressure

Who are we looking for?

You feel responsible for all operations-related tasks. So whether you call yourself a System Administrator, Cloud Engineer, Operations Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or Site Reliability Engineer doesn't matter much to us. As long as you enjoy taking on that breadth. If you say "that's not in my job description" during an incident, a loud buzzer goes off ;-)

The right attitude and motivation are more important to Carerix than having diplomas, IT certifications, or experience with specific technologies. In fact, being "married" to certain technologies isn't helpful in an environment that's subject to change. Experience shows that an intermediate vocational level (no diploma required) is necessary to handle this job.

Carerix has—as you've read—a hybrid environment that's undergoing major renovation while the shop stays open. This sometimes creates complex situations that require your creative solutions.

You understand that in this role you'll occasionally need to do things outside office hours so customers aren't affected. In practice, this happens once a week or every two weeks. Often you can do this from home.

Software components you'll work with include:

  • Ansible
  • Apache
  • AWS
  • Debian
  • Docker
  • Elastic Stack
  • Java
  • Kubernetes
  • Python
  • Relational databases (Carerix uses PostgreSQL))
  • REST & GraphQL APIs
  • Web Application Firewall

Carerix is looking for someone who:

  • Can quickly analyse and resolve incidents
  • Easily learns new software, tools, and scripting languages
  • Is "security aware" (how would you feel if your CV ended up on the street?)
  • Knows what network protocols are and understands performance tuning
  • Has experience with at least one scripting language (Carerix mainly uses Python and Bash) and one relational database (Carerix uses PostgreSQL))
  • Speaks and writes English well, the team's working language
  • Can speak some Dutch—nice for socializing with other colleagues in the office

Offer

  • Enjoy quarterly bonuses up to 600 euros on top of your fixed salary
  • Start with annual contract that's automatically converted to permanent after one year
  • Get concrete growth opportunities in a company where you're never fully grown

What Carerix offers

Join Carerix and you'll get room for initiative and creativity to take yourself and Carerix to the next level. Every week brings plenty to experience and learn. The DevOps team truly wants to help each other reach a higher level. Carerix is a technical company, so you'll be provided with good tools to help with your work (a good laptop and phone).

Naturally, you'll also get good working conditions:

  • A gross monthly salary between 5,200 and 5,700 euros that fits your experience, based on 40 hours per week
  • A quarterly bonus linked to your personal goals, varying between 300 and 600 euros
  • You start on a one-year contract, which converts to a permanent contract after a year if you're a good fit
  • Preferably you work full-time (40 hours), but 32 hours is negotiable
  • Hybrid working is the norm after your onboarding period. The team agreement is to be present in Rotterdam on Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • If you travel by car, Carerix reimburses 0.23 euros per kilometer from the first kilometer. Public transport costs are fully reimbursed
  • Informal work atmosphere—you can be who you are!
  • Concrete growth opportunities—you'll never outgrow Carerix
  • 25 vacation days
  • Attractive pension plan, with half the premium paid by Carerix

Application

  • Talk informally with your future colleague before you definitively apply
  • Go through transparent process: video call, technical interview, then CTO meeting
  • Get a concrete offer directly if the conversations go well
